What is Lifestyle Medicine?
Lifestyle Medicine involves the use of evidence-based lifestyle therapeutic approaches, such as a predominantly whole food, planted-based eating patterns, exercise, sleep, stress management, alcohol moderation and tobacco cessation, and other non-drug modalities, to prevent, treat, and oftentimes reverse the lifestyle-related chronic diseases that are all too prevalent today.
Lifestyle Medicine is based on what a growing body of scientific evidence shows us: a healthy lifestyle is medicine. This type of medicine is effective, simple, inexpensive and has only positive side effects!
Unhealthy lifestyle choices underlie many chronic diseases such as heart disease, hypertension, type 2 diabetes, stroke, obesity, osteoporosis, and many cancers. By promoting healthy lifestyle choices, Lifestyle Medicine treats the root issue of these diseases, not just the symptoms.
