Blue Pastors is a medically-guided comprehensive weight management program and support group for Seventh-day Adventist ministers and pastors. Using evidence-based lifestyle medicine and a combination of clinical care, education and social support, Blue Pastors helps ministers and pastors address excess weight and obesity in a compassionate, supportive and safe environment.

Blue Pastors is part of Pathways to Wholeness Lifestyle Medicine's Blue Church Initiative

*This program is eligible for reimbursement under the Health Benefits Plan of the Seventh-day Adventist Church (see below).*

Why BLUE?

Coined by National Geographic fellow Dan Buettner, Blue Zones are areas of the world with the healthiest and longest-living populations. These include Okinawa, Nicaragua, Sardinia, Ikaria (Greece) and Seventh-day Adventist Christians living in Loma Linda, California. Through lifestyle medicine-based health education, community programs, training and collaboration, the Blue Church Initiative seeks to transform every church into a Blue Zone: a community of believers who uniquely stand out for their vibrant and healthy lives and is a centre of health and wholeness in the wider community. Blue Pastors is a program of the Blue Church Initiative.

Our approach: Lifestyle Medicine

Lifestyle medicine uses evidence-based lifestyle therapeutic approaches  to prevent, treat and often times even reverse many of the leading chronic diseases of today, including obesity.

Blue Pastors focuses on empowering participants to adopt a lifestyle that they can live with and that will help them lose weight and keep it off over the long-term.

The Program

Purpose: Promote optimal healthy living among pastors and ministers through a scientific, long-term, comprehensive weight management program which combines medical guidance, health education and social support.

Includes

  • Comprehensive approach that covers all 6 focus areas of lifestyle medicine (plant-based nutrition, physical activity, stress management, sleep, relationships and risky substance use)

  • Continuously updated to reflect latest evidence and best practices in bariatric care

  • Consistent with the health principles and medical philosophy advanced by the Seventh-day Adventist Church

  • Clinic staff committed to compassionate and quality care

Who can be involved?
Only for pastors, ministers and Bible workers.
