Can your church be a Blue Zone?
Coined by National Geographic fellow Dan Buettner, Blue Zones are areas of the world with the healthiest and longest-living populations, including the Seventh-day Adventist Christians living in Loma Linda, California.
How about Christians living in other parts of the world?
Can every community of Christians - every church - be a Blue Zone as well?
The Blue Church Initiative envisions every church to be a Blue Zone: a community of believers who uniquely stand out for their vibrant and healthy lives and is a centre of health and wholeness in the wider community.
Through lifestyle medicine-based health education, community programs and training and collaboration, the Blue Church Initiative seeks to transform every church into a Blue Zone.
What is Lifestyle Medicine?
Lifestyle medicine uses evidence-based lifestyle therapeutic approaches to prevent, treat and often times even reverse many of the leading chronic diseases of today, including obesity.
Lifestyle medicine focuses on 6 lifestyle areas: whole plant-based foods, physical activity, managing stress, tobacco cessation, improved sleep and strong social relationships.
The professional body for the practice and advancement of lifestyle medicine is the American College of Lifestyle Medicine (ACLM). Seventh-day Adventist doctors and health professionals were instrumental in the creation of ACLM.
BLUE PASTORS PROGRAM
Blue Pastors is a medically-guided comprehensive weight management program and support group for ministers and pastors.
